Haritha, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates:
I passed by the Prophet, salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam, and Jibril, peace be upon him, was sitting in a place next to him. I gave him my salam and left. When The Prophet, salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam, came back he said, “Did you see who was with me?” , I said, “Yes”, He said, “It was Jibril and he returned your salam”.
[Authentic chain of narration, Ahmad, 433/5, Al-Tabarani, 3226, Al-Hafith said in Al-Isabah, its authentic, and so did Al-Haythami in 'Al-Mujma']
What an honor it is to have your salam returned by Ameen Al-Sama’, Jibril!
Haritha bin Al-Nou’man is a great Sahabi who witnessed all the battles with the Prophet, salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam. He, his mother, and his family accepted Islam early on when Mus’ab bin ‘Umair first gave dawah in Madinah before the Prophet, salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam, arrived. He was especially known for his faith in Allah and his kindness to his mother…
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, the Prophet, salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam, said:
“I slept and saw myself in Jannah. I heard the sound of a person reciting the Quran, and I said: ‘Who is this?’. They said, ‘This is Haritha bin Al-Nouman’. The Prophet, salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam said, ‘This is the (reward) of Al-Bir, This is the (reward) of Al-Bir’.
[Authentic, reported in Abdulrazaq in Al-Musanaf, 132/11, Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, Al-Hakim, agreed by Al-Thahabi]
Al-Bir, or bir al-waladayn, is treating your parents well, and taking care of them. Al-Haritha treated his mother extremely well, and so he received the reward of Jannah – may Allah be pleased with him.
